After my best night of sleep so far, things started out pretty well. This is the fifth day after my L5-S1 laminectomy (back surgery).
A Good Start
After a nice cycle of walks and rest time, the was going well indeed. I’m feeling almost relaxed and like I am starting to recovery. At least I am starting to adjust to this new pain and the repercussions of back surgery.
The Setback
I was dosing off on the couch when there was a knock at the door. Normally, that wouldn’t mean anything, but my sister in law is in town with her dog. The dog did its job and barked. Unfortunately, it was not just a “bark”; it was a berserk alarm of yappy barking. As I was dosing off, it scared me and my whole body seized up. The ensuing pain was unbelievable. Not the same as when it herniated the first time, but major pain.
Now I am scared. Before that, the numbness and tingling in my leg was gone. Now some is back.
Did I re-herniate it? I hope not.
They say the hard part of the recovery is the mental part. Well, I’m rattle in the pain department as well as the mental department right now.
The highlight of the day was walking all the way around the block. I probably went a little too far, but it was a small victory. That was early in the day. Now I don’t know what I can do.
