Micrfracture Surgery Recovery – 5 Weeks

Today marks my 5th week post surgery. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something feels different.

I think it is a good different. It is in my knee and I’ve been describing like the way a cut heals. At first it hurts. Then it itches. And then you can still tell something is there, but it feels better and it is like a “good” soreness. Well, that is how my knee has been feeling. The pain is gone, and now it feels like it is getting better. I still have a long way to go, but it is good to at least feel like I am improving.

At my last physical therapy session, I met a guy who had his knee microfractured about 15 years ago. That makes it one of the first ones. The good part to the story is that it worked well. He had some other problems that needed an MRI, and the MRI showed that the microfracture worked. That makes me happy. I hear so many failure stories that a good success story helps a lot.

Tomorrow I see Dr. Behr again for my second post-op visit. I don’t think it will be too dramatic. I hope to learn more abut how much more time I have left on crutches and what the next phase of my rehab will look like.

  1. Just thought I’d pop in and let you know I’ve decided to go through with my surgery. My physio strongly recommended me to do it. Probably sometime early october…

Good to hear you are on the right track – gives me hope as well! =)
